The 2008 Mercury Mountaineer was recalled on Sept. 26, 2007, for fire risk due to transmission fluid leaks, according to Motor Trend magazine. As of May 2015, this is the most recent recall for the Mercury Mountaineer, though there were several more in the years prior to 2007.
Another recall that affected the 2008 Mercury Mountaineer was announced by Ford on December 11, 2007. It involved tempered glass that broke into small pieces and did not conform to federal motor vehicle safety standards. This flaw exposed occupants to the risk of injury from shattered glass in the event of a crash.
