What are some methods for hipot testing?

Three common types of hipot or high voltage tests are the Dielectric Breakdown test, the Dielectric Withstanding test, and the Insulation Resistance test. Hipot tests evaluate parts of an electrical circuit to be sure little or no current flows between parts that should not experience a flow of current.

The Dielectric Withstanding test measures how a cable withstands voltage over time, and the Dielectric Breakdown test measures the opposite, or how quickly a cable breaks down under the force of a certain voltage. Insulation resistance testing measures how well the insulation around cables is holding up, and what rate of deterioration to expect over time.
