Does Michigan have a famous food?

Michigan has a famous food – the Michigan Treasure Cookie, widely considered to be the state's official cookie. Legislation introduced in 2004 acknowledged a campaign undertaken by elementary school students to grant the cookie an official status.

Michigan Treasure Cookies consist of a dough made from flour, white sugar, brown sugar, cocoa and a generous amount of butter or margarine. Chocolate chunks and dried cherries are added to the dough.

The Michigan Treasure Cookie recipe was submitted to the state legislature by Defer Elementary School, where a fourth-grade class pressured lawmakers to introduce a bill designating their treat as the state's official cookie and its first official state food.
