When was Microsoft Word for Windows invented?

Microsoft Word for MS-DOS was a typing program released in 1983, and the Windows version was invented in 1989. The first Microsoft Office package with Word, PowerPoint and Excel was released in 1990.
Even the MS-DOS version of Word was designed for use with a mouse, which was rare at the time. It replaced WordStar, the most popular program in the 1980s. However, many people who work in law, medicine and other professions that require data entry and touch typing still use WordPerfect, another program introduced in 1979 with more keyboard shortcuts than Word. The most recent version of Word was released in 2013.
