Middletown is located in the southern end of New Castle County in Delaware. The town is located 24 miles southwest of Wilmington and straddles Delaware Route 299.
Middletown is a medium-sized town located toward the northern tip of Delaware, just east of the Delaware-Maryland border. Incorporated in 1861, the town traces its origins as a tavern stop as far back as 1762, and it has grown since its inception to inhabit an area of 11.61 square miles. Visitors can reach the town by road, rail and air, as the Norfolk Southern Railway operates a railway line through the center of town, and the Summit Airport is located to the north of the town's border. The town rests at an elevation of 69 feet.
