Miralax is not a habit-forming medication, according to Pediatric Partners, P.A. Miralax is a stool softener that works by increasing water content in stool.
Miralax can be used to treat constipation in all ages, as stated by Delaware Modern Pediatrics. Parents should consult with a doctor for the proper dosage for children and infants. Since Miralax is not a laxative, it is not habit forming and it can be used over time to relieve constipation and hard stools. The medication comes in a white powder form, which dissolves in water. The medication has very few, if any, side effects.
