What is a mixture of sand, lime and water?

A mixture of sand, lime and water is called plaster or mortar. Lime mortar has been used all over the world, for centuries, for stone and brick building construction.
Historically, lime mortar has a ratio of one part lime to three parts sand. This mixture is then applied between the construction materials, to bind them together once it dries. It can also be used as a finish on exterior or interior walls and allows the building to "breathe," which helps to keep moisture from building up within the walls. It is naturally mold- and mildew-resistant, but it requires more time to produce and apply than quick-dry cement.
