Monkeys enjoy eating nuts, and most of them are experts at cracking the tough nut shells open. Monkeys do have varying eating habits depending on the species and location, but most survive on a diet of fruits, plants, leaves, bark, gums, twigs, insects, bugs, seeds and nuts.
Monkeys are known for being exceptional problem solvers. According to Discovery, they have been observed using rocks as tools to crack open a nut's tough shell, or sticks to lure small insects out of hiding.
Most monkeys in the wild get the majority of their water from the fruit and plants that they eat, which is why it is important for them to maintain a diverse diet that includes fruits and plants in addition to nuts.
