What is the moral of the story in "The Gingerbread Man"?

"The Gingerbread Man" explores possession and what really makes something someone's possession. Throughout the story, people keep acting like they are the owners of the gingerbread man.

This is a children's fairy tale and it seeks to help children learn that not everything belongs to them. For example, if a child has a video game that they play often, their parents can take it away for bad behavior or bad grades. Just because they are currently in possession of something, it does not mean that they will always retain possession. Another moral is that just because someone wants something, it does not mean that they can have it.
