Mountain climbers are an exercise that targets the abdominal muscles, according to The American Council on Exercise. This is a full body exercise that also incorporates the muscles of the butt, hips and thighs.
Mountain climbers are performed with both hands placed firmly on the floor, shoulder-width apart and slightly forward. The right foot is placed on the floor under the chest with the left leg straight behind with toes on the floor and heel pointed up. From this lunge position, the individual engages the abdominal muscles and jumps to switch leg positions. These steps are typically repeated for a set number of repetitions or a set amount of time.
