The $5 American Eagle bullion coin weighs 0.1091 troy ounces, equivalent to 0.1197 ounces. It is 0.65 inches in diameter and depicts a walking Lady Liberty on the front and an eagle family on the back. It contains 0.1 troy ounce of gold.
The American Eagle bullion coins have been minted since 1986. Available through the U.S. Mint, the collector version of the coin is proof, a sharply struck and highly polished version of the coin. They contain 22-karat gold, which means 91.67 percent of each coin is gold. Issued in weights of one ounce, a half ounce, a quarter ounce and a 10th of an ounce, they bear face values of $50, $25, $10 and $5 respectively. They are legal tender at their face value.
