How much is the Amtrak discount for seniors?

Amtrak offers a discount of 15 percent off the lowest available fair for seniors over 62. Certain routes, trains and classes are not eligible for the discount. A passenger must provide photo identification to prove his age when he purchases or picks up a ticket.

The senior discount cannot be combined with most other discounts. The discount also only applies to economy class, not sleeping cars or first class tickets. For other restrictions, visit the Amtrak website.

For passengers using a combination of Amtrak and Via Rail in order to travel to locations in Canada, a 10 percent discount is applied to the Via Rail portion for passengers over the age of 60.
