How much bandwidth does Skype use?

Bandwidth usage within Skype depends on whether a regular phone call or a video call is being made and on the quality of the video streaming, if applicable. Group calls use more bandwidth than one-on-one calls, and usage increases according to the number of participants in the call.

Minimum speeds for a phone call are 30 kbps download/30 kbps upload. However, Skype recommends 100 kbps for both upload and download. For video calling, Skype recommends a speed of at least 300 kbps, although video calls can be made with only 128 kbps. For high definition calls, 1.5 mbps are recommended.
