How much did the Vietnam Memorial cost to construct?

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial was constructed at a cost of $8.4 million. Funds for the Memorial were raised by the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, and construction did not require the use of additional government funding.

The entrance to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial features the Three Servicemen statue and an American flag. The flag and flagpole cost $18,000 and were paid for with contributions from the American Legion. Groundbreaking for the Vietnam Veterans Memorial took place on March 26, 1982, and construction was completed in October 1982. The Memorial is made of black granite and etched with the names of more than 58,000 service members.
