According to specifications published by the United States Mint, one U.S. dime weighs 2.268 grams. Dimes feature a composition of 8.33 percent nickel and 91.67 percent copper.
Other commonly used U.S. coins share one key characteristic with U.S. dimes. For example, both dimes and quarters feature the same relative composition of copper and nickel, but quarters weigh more than twice as much as dimes do. Quarters also have a larger diameter than dimes and are thicker than dimes. Interestingly, half-dollar coins also possess the same elemental composition as dimes but differ from dimes and other coins in the properties of diameter, weight and thickness.
