In 2014, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting received $74.3 million in Federal allocations specifically for television programming grants. This amount was part of an overall allocation of $445 million, which supports both PBS and NPR. Approximately $222.7 million of the $445 million allocation went directly to local public television stations.
In comparison to the $297 million total for PBS television stations and programming, NPR and public radio stations received $99 million of the $445 million Federal allocations. The remaining $49 million of the Federal allocation was used for CPB operation costs and system support. This $445 million allocation for public broadcasting only accounted for 0.012 percent of the overall Federal budget. The 2014 allocation was 5.5 percent greater than the previous year.
