It is unknown exactly how much money Shakespeare made in his lifetime, though he was wealthy enough to purchase New Place, which was the second largest home in Stratford. He was also wealthy enough to buy 107 acres of farmland and a Chapel Lane cottage.

Shakespeare earned money in a variety of ways. He became a shareholder in the Chamberlain's Men when he joined them in 1594. He later joined the syndicates that owned both the Blackfriars Theatre and the Globe Theatre. Shakespeare also made money by leasing out homes he owned, including part of his family home on Henley Street.
