How much power can you expect to get from a home-built wind generator?

Under perfect conditions, a home-built wind turbine can produce a maximum of 10 kilowatts in a day or 87,600 kilowatts in a year. The real power output of the turbine depends on its mechanical efficiency, the rotor blade length, speed of the wind and air density.
A turbine located in an area with soft breezes produces a few watts while one located in an area with wind speeds that rise above 25 miles per hour often shuts down. Turbines with large rotor blades generate exponentially more power than those with short rotor blades. Ideally, a 10 kilowatt system can generate about 10,000 kilowatts per year.
