The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported average annual pay of $72,710 as of May 2013 for clinical, counseling and school psychologists, which covers most professionals in this field. The average for all other psychologists was $88,400. Among top employment sectors, health practitioner offices had the highest-paying jobs at $80,600.
The BLS reported average pay of $71,840 for psychologists in elementary and secondary schools, as of May 2013. In outpatient centers, psychologists averaged $66,750 per year. Hawaii was the top-paying state for clinical, counseling and school psychologists, with an average salary of $102,990 per year. Rhode Island was next at $93,710 followed by Alabama at $85,800.
