How much sunlight does a lily plant require?

A lily plant requires at least six hours of sunshine a day, but it produces more blossoms if it is planted where it can get full sun. A spot with partial shade can shelter the lily plant from the heat of the midday sun.
Lily bulbs should be planted in well-drained soil to avoid rot, mold and fungal disease. Sprinkle some bone meal in the hole with the bulb to provide the new lily plant with some much-needed phosphorus. Add compost, leaf mold or peat moss to the soil around the lilies to keep the plants cool and retain the appropriate moisture level.
