According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median annual salary in 2012 was $53,090 for kindergarten and elementary school teachers and $55,050 for high school teachers. The top 10 percent of kindergarten and elementary school teachers made more than $78,230, and the lowest 10 percent made less than $32,450.
The top 10 percent of high school teachers made more than $85,690, and the lowest 10 percent made less than $36,930. Employment for kindergarten and elementary school teachers is expected to grow at a rate of 12 percent from 2012 to 2022, while employment growth for high school teachers is projected at just 6 percent due to declines in student-to-teacher ratios and enrollment increases.
