As of April 2015, Appointment Plus recommends beginning with a base salary of $10 per hour for tutoring in algebra and adjusting it upwards from there based on several factors. These include the tutor's level of experience and education, the average salary of the area and the demand for services.
According to Care.com, tutors can find work in several different ways that may also affect their amount of take-home pay. For example, independent tutors can set their own salaries and take home all of the money they make from each job, while tutors who find jobs through tutoring agencies often have to split their money with the agency itself.
