How much water do you waste in a 10-minute shower?

Depending on the type of showerhead, a 10-minute shower can use up to 50 gallons of water. Installing a low-flow showerhead cuts the amount of water used to about 25 gallons per 10-minute shower.
To reduce wasted shower water, consumers can place buckets in the tub when they turn on water to let it get warm. The collected water can be used around the house for watering plants, for cleaning and for pets to drink. Turning off water while shaving and brushing teeth also cuts down on waste. A bath can consume even more water than a shower, taking up 35 to 50 gallons.
