The single extant example of the 1967 Shelby GT500 Mustang Super Snake was sold at auction in 2013 for $1.3 million dollars. Shelby American also builds new Super Snakes based on the 2015 Ford Mustang chassis that sells for a more affordable $49,999 not including the original Mustang GT vehicle.

The 1967 Super Snake was a prototype vehicle originally built as a tire demonstrator for Goodyear. It was equipped with the 427-cubic-inch powerplant from the Ford GT40 Le Mans prototype, giving the vehicle a top speed well in excess of 170 mph. There were plans to produce a limited run of Super Snakes for sale, but the then-exorbitant price of $8,000 per car made production economically nonviable.
