Is nausea a sign of labor?

While pregnancy is different for each woman, nausea is not a main indicator of going into labor. According to Parents Magazine, there are five major signs of labor, including the water breaking, having strong and persistent contractions, having discharge, having diarrhea and experiencing a throbbing pain in the back.

According to BabyCenter, identifying when a labor starts is difficult because of the confusion with Braxton Hicks contractions. Nonetheless, when labor is unclear and the mother is concerned, it is best to call a caregiver. BabyCenter recommends visiting a hospital to prevent further injury, including when the baby seems less energetic, when the mother is in pain and when there is bleeding.
