Is it necessary to read Clive Cussler books in the order they are written?

It is not necessary to read Clive Cussler's books in the order they were written. However, it is suggested that each book be read in order of the copyright date. Each book is designed to function both alone and as part of its series.

Clive Cussler is the creator of the Dirk Pitt adventures, the Oregon Files, the NUMA Files, the Isaac Bell detective series and Fargo Adventures. Cussler's books feature a number of recurring characters appearing in several series. In reading the Dirk Pitt adventures, "Pacific Vortex" is first, followed by "Mediterranean Caper," then "Iceberg" and "Raise the Titanic."
