Why do you need to fill out a Medicare QMB application?

Medicare recipients will need to fill out a Medicare QMB application if they need help paying their premiums, deductibles or copayments. QMB stands for Qualified Medicare Beneficiary.

The Medicare QMB program offers help to individuals whose income is less than $1,001 per month or couples whose income is less than $1,348 per month. However, those making slightly more than this amount are invited to fill out an application.

If approved, patients automatically qualify for help paying for prescription drug coverage. Income limits are slightly higher in Hawaii and Alaska and when claiming income, patients need to remember to claim things like stocks, bonds and money in bank accounts.
