Does New Jersey have a 13-week extension for unemployment benefits?

As of January 2015, there are no extensions for unemployment benefits within the state of New Jersey. This rule applies to both state and federal extension programs. In New Jersey, unemployed workers can receive benefits for up to 26 weeks before the benefits expire.

In December 2013, the federal unemployment extension program expired and Congress did not vote to renew the program for 2014. This caused 90,300 residents, or 1 percent of New Jersey's population, to immediately lose their unemployment benefits.

In June 2014, Senators Jack Reed of Rhode Island and Dean Heller of Nevada fought for a bill to renew the unemployment extension program, but it failed to pass.
