Do all New York license plates start with the letter F?

Not all New York license plates start with the letter F. The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles issues standard license plates in alphabetical order. However, many Empire Gold plates start with the letter F because it was the next sequential letter when the plates were introduced in 2010.

All license plates beginning with the letter E had been issued by the time the New York DMV replaced the Empire Blue and White license plates with the Empire Gold series. Some New York residents still retain their old plates. After the letter F ran its course in 2012, New York commenced issuing standard plates starting with the letter G.
