Why are NFL games played on Sundays?
By Forinfos - 30/09/2025 - 0 comments
National Football League games are played on Sundays largely due to a condition of the Sports Broadcasting Act, which was passed by Congress in 1961. The act forbid the NFL from broadcasting games during certain time periods that directly competed against college football game broadcasts on television.
The NFL has not always played all its games on Sunday; but, as of the passing of the Sports Broadcasting Act, NFL games have always been played at times that do not conflict with National Collegiate Athletic Association games. Since the 1970s, NFL games have been played on Monday nights, and the NFL began broadcasting games on Thursday nights in 2006.
