What is the number of chromosomes in a zygote?
By Forinfos - 30/06/2025 - 0 comments
A zygote contains two sets of chromosomes, one from each parent. The two pairs of chromosomes add up to be 46 total chromosomes in humans.
A zygote is the end result of two sex cells combining. This occurs during fertilization, when a sperm cell from the male fertilizes the egg of a female. Each sex cell contains 23 chromosomes. Chromosomes determine the sex of the offspring. The male sex cell contains either a X or Y, while the female cell only has an X chromosome. If a male cell fertilizes a female sex cell with a Y chromosome, the offspring is male.
