What is nutritional yeast?
By Forinfos - 25/07/2025 - 0 comments
Nutritional yeast is a deactivated form of yeast that is sold commercially as food. It often has a strong flavor that makes it a common substitute for cheese products. This product is a good source of vitamins and protein.
According to Natural Health, a good nutritional yeast should contain a fungi called Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Nutritional yeast is grown on molasses and then deactivated during harvest. This product is deactivated to prevent it from being used for leavening. Nutritional yeast is found either in yeast flakes or powder form. It has a similar appearance to that of brewer's yeast.
