What is the NYS Department of Agriculture?

The NYS Department of Agriculture (NYSDA) is the New York State government agency that governs the food and agricultural industry for the state of New York. The goal of the agency is to foster a growing, competitive atmosphere for the food and agriculture industry that benefits consumers and producers.
The NYSDA has multiple divisions such as agricultural development, food safety and inspection, Kosher law enforcement and animal industry. Approximately one-fourth of the land in New York is devoted to agriculture. The NYSDA also promotes its agriculture through state and local fairs throughout New York. These presentations help bring agricultural awareness to residents of New York state.
