An octopus flask is typically adorned with imagery of an octopus and other marine life in vibrant colors. Originally constructed with ceramic, as of 2014, many octopus flasks are available in a variety of container types.
The octopus flask is believed to have origins in Palaikastro (Crete), Greece around 1500 BC to 1450 BC. A vibrantly painted flask of ceramic construction was discovered in the Marine style to celebrate the Minoan civilization's close connection with the sea at the peak of its maritime power. As of 2014, Octopus flasks are still popular, and many continue to replicate the original Palaikastro designs.
