Several of the world's largest oil and gas companies are based in the United States, including Exxon Mobil, Chevron, ConocoPhillips, Occidental Petroleum and Eon Resources. Other major oil companies that have their corporate headquarters in the United States include Valero Energy, Marathon Petroleum and Devon Energy.

Exxon Mobil is the largest oil company in the United States in terms of revenue and market value, with a 2014 revenue of $394 billion and a market valuation of $356.5 billion. Chevron and Valero are the second and third largest oil companies in the United States in terms of 2014 revenue, but ConocoPhillips replaces Valero in third place in terms of market valuation.
