How old do you have to be to become a bartender in California?

In California, the minimum age to be a bartender is 21 years old. Although a large number of other states allow people between the ages of 18 to 20 to serve as bartenders, California is one of the stricter states that mandates that bartenders be the legal drinking age.
People between the ages of 18 to 20 are allowed to serve alcohol in California, but only in "bona-fide eating establishments." In other words, the worker must be employed in a restaurant. Servers who are not of legal drinking age and who are employed at restaurants are typically allowed to serve alcohol if they are working under the supervision of someone who is 21 or older.
