Indiana state law has no specific restriction on the seating position of children in vehicles. It does, however, set forth a number of rules regarding car safety for children.
Children under 8-years-old should ride in a booster seat or a child safety seat. Children who cannot fit into these seats are exempted from this recommendation and are required to wear safety belts instead. Furthermore, state law mandates that all car passengers between 8 and 16 must wear a seat belt while inside a vehicle. Other states may have more specific and stringent restrictions on the safety of children while inside motor vehicles.
