How old do you have to be to get a paper route?

There is no set age for a child to deliver newspapers on a paper route in the United States. Child labor provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act do not apply to paper routes, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. Age requirements vary based on state, and newspapers may also set their own age limits.
For example, The News-Gazette, based out of Champaign, Ill., requires paper carriers to be at least 10 years old. In addition to reliability and daily availability, The Intelligencer and Wheeling News-Register of Wheeling, W.Va., require newspaper deliverers under the age of 18 to have parental permission to work the route.
