There is no law regarding the appropriate age for a child to be left home alone, according to FindLaw. There are, however, general guidelines that parents should follow. Each case is different due to the maturity level of the child in question.

According to FindLaw, children under 7 should never be left alone. Children 8 to 10 years of age can be left home alone for up to an hour and a half, but only during daylight or early evening hours. Children ages 11 to 12 can be left home alone for up to 3 hours. Teens over 16 can be left home alone overnight.
