The old wives' tale concerning itchy palms means that the individual who experiences it will be coming into money soon. There is distinction between the left and right palm.

When the right palm itches, it is said that the person will soon be poor or shake hands with a fool, and when the left palm is irritated, money is supposed to be on the way. Though this is only a superstition, it has been around for a long time and many individuals still pass the information along to their children.
