What are some options for disposing of old cell phones?

Old cell phones can be recycled, donated, traded in, resold or disposed of with a local sanitation agency. Cell phone manufacturers, wireless service providers and other groups have programs for consumers' old cell phones.

Wireless service providers like AT&T and Verizon Wireless, for example, offer recycling programs that give the consumer a reward for the return, usually a credit for the purchase of a new device. Many stores like Best Buy and Staples offer in-store recycling options, while manufacturers like LG, Samsung and Sprint offer mail-in recycling options. The United States Environmental Protection Agency has a free searchable database of disposal options on their website. Before disposing of a cell phone, remove all personal information.
