What is an order of dedication service?

An order of dedication service is a ceremony in which Christians set apart people or things from the ordinary affairs of life and present them to God for His service. There are several common variations of these services in the Christian church, including dedications of babies/children and buildings/objects.
For baby/child dedications, a pastor typically counsels the parents before the ceremony. Other family members may have a part in the ceremony as well. During the ceremony, parents and the church congregation take vows to raise the child with the love of God and teach the child about God and the Bible. The pastor then prays over the child.
