What organelles are associated with plant photosynthesis?

The organelle that is associated with plant photosynthesis is the chloroplast. The chloroplast contains a pigment called chlorophyll, which is able to absorb all colors of light except green, which it reflects. This is what gives most plants their distinctive green color.

A chloroplast is made of three different membranes. There are two membranes, called the inner and outer membrane, that are standard layers that enclose the organelle. The third membrane, the thylakoid membrane, is unique. It is extremely long and folds up inside the chloroplast to form mini stacks of coin-like structures. These structures contain the chlorophyll pigment that is needed to absorb light energy.
