Three economists declared in 2013 that Google Trends could be useful in predicting daily price moves in the Dow Jones industrial average, according to Forbes. While other researches failed in 2010 when using Google Trends to predict the market, the ever-increasing size of Google's data reportedly made the difference.
Researchers found the debt was the most reliable search term for predicting the market, noting that buying stocks when debt searches decreased and selling stocks when debt searches rose helped increase their portfolio value, explains Forbes. The ability of Google Trends to show daily and weekly trends in real time is reportedly what makes the predictions more accurate.
