Be Responsible and Keep Everyone Safe, or BRAKES, is an organization that offers free driving safety classes for teens. Drag racer Doug Herbert created BRAKES.
BRAKES' four-hour classes include both classroom training and in-car driving instruction. Expert trainers cover a variety of topics, including normal operation and recovering from loss of control events. BRAKES classes are open to young people who have driver's licenses or learner's permits and who have already logged 30 hours of experience driving a motor vehicle. The program receives financing through a public-private partnership of local county governments and donations from car manufacturers such as Kia Motors, Ltd.
