The pierogi originated in the country of Poland. The pierogi is a type of dumpling that can be filled with many different ingredients.

The pierogi shell is made from a dough which is rolled thin. In Poland, the most popular fillings for this dish are mushrooms, sauerkraut and forcemeat. Potatoes, cheese, onion and cabbage are also traditional ingredients.
Dessert versions of this dish are made with fresh fruits, including strawberries and blueberries and white cream or mousse. The pierogi can be fried, steamed or baked.
