What is an outlet sale?

An outlet sale is a discounted price on returned or discontinued items from a variety of brands and manufacturers. It should not be confused with an outlet store, which is where outlet sales occur.

The terms "outlet sales" and "outlet store" can lead to confusion with factory outlets. Factory outlets are stores that are usually located right next to or near the manufacturer. Irregular, defected, or overstock items for that particular manufacturer are sold here. Items bought at factory outlets are often the same quality as those brand new off the shelves but for a much cheaper price (say $30 for what would normally be $200).
