As of 2015, Bennett, Coleman & Co. Limited owns The Times of India. BC&C has owned The Times of India since 1892, says Bloomberg. In turn, the Sahu Jain family owns Bennett Coleman & Co ltd.
The Times of India was first published on Nov. 3, 1838, as The Bombay Times and Journal of Commerce. By 1860, then editor Robert Knight merged the publication company with rival Bombay Standard, forming The Bombay Times and Standard. The next year the name was changed to The Times of India, and the newly named publication saw several changes in ownership before being acquired by the BC&C.
