Oxydol, according to its website, is a laundry detergent. Wikipedia states that it is sold in the United States and in the United Kingdom. As of 2014, it is owned by CR Brands.
Wikipedia explains that Oxydol was Proctor and Gamble's first detergent back in 1927. Oxydol itself was created in 1914 by Newcastle Upon Tyne's Thomas Hedley Company. It was the sponsor of the "Ma Perkins" show in the 1930s, making it the inspiration for the term "soap opera." "Ma Perkins" was a radio show that became quite popular. Oxydol was sold to Redox Brands in 2000, and Redox merged with today's owner, CR Brands.
