What painkillers are most effective when an individual has a gum abscess?
By Forinfos - 22/05/2026 - 0 comments
Ibuprofen is the most effective painkiller for gum abscesses, but paracetamol can also be taken if ibuprofen is not an option. The only way to cure a gum abscess is through dental treatment, but these painkillers can be used until the patient goes to the dentist, according to NHS Choices.
Other at-home treatments are available to relieve pain before going to the dentist, says NHS Choices. These include avoiding foods that make the pain worse, applying crushed ice or cool water to the affected area, and lying with the head propped up. The dentist treats the gum abscess through root canal or pulling the tooth.
